Melvin M. Cates, MA.
Family Consultant, Success Plans

Melvin Cates, MA., facilitates home-based parenting interventions and support through the implementation of Success Plans. He has over ten years of experience in working with families in both outpatient clinical services and intervention programs.
Mr. Cates holds a Master's degree in Community Counseling and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. He is also a senior-level Instructor for the International Association for Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Certified Instructors, as well as a NREMT-B Instructor for the American Heart Association. He is also a Licensed Child Care Administrator in the state of Texas. He has served on the national board of directors of the National Association of Therapeutic Wilderness Camping.
Mr. Cates first started working with families as a river guide on the San Marcos and Guadalupe Rivers, and has since worked with students and family members of all ages while guiding fly fishing and backpacking. Prior to joining Academic Answers, he was the Program Director for an outdoor therapy program in North Carolina and the Executive Director for a short term intervention program for struggling adolescents in Texas.
As a dedicated father of two boys and husband of ten years, Melvin is constantly reminded of the power of a unified family and hopes to empower as many families as possible with the tools for a better future.
